Woody

Vetiver

Chrysopogon zizanioides

Vetiver is the grounding note in a blend — deeply earthy, dry and woody, with a soft smoky warmth. It can even lean a little damp and mineral, lifted by a subtle grapefruit-like freshness. Grown from India to Haiti, perfumers prize its long roots, which are dug up, washed, sun-dried, then extracted — around 100kg of roots for 1kg of essence.
